ABOUT

"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remeber. Involve me and I learn" - Benjamin Franklin

"Mistakes are the stepping stones to learning" - Anonymous

"Do not train children to learning by force and harshness, but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each" - Plato

These three quotes encompass what we think about teaching and learning here at Tutoring and Helpful Hints.
We agree with the wise Benjamin Franklin that authentic, real life, hands on multisensory experiences are the best way to unleash each childs capacity for deeper and effective learning.
We believe that one gains knowledge and expereince through making mistakes, creating stepping stones for further learning.
Each child in our minds is a genius. Our task is to bring forth this by finding their best attributes, qualities, skills and abilities. Work on their less favoured areas in a non harsh way to bring them to their full unique potential.

Tutoring

Tutoring is about building a raport with our students. Finding their strengths and abilities to help ignite interest in areas where they are lacking motivation. Overall making them realise their full potential. Not only do we focus on building knowledge and understuding but also focusing on childrens confidence and self esteem within themselves and their work. We pride ourselves on making our tutoring session not only educational but fun, engaging, motivating, authentic real life experiences. We also ensure, that after each session we catch up with the parents and explain how their child is doin. If there is any concerns or need for extra activities the parents are the first to know. As it is hard for classroom teachers to diagnose learning set backs and/or disabilities, in our one on one tutoring sessions we are able to assess if your child needs further testing.

Helpful Hints

This is an area which will help provide both parents and their child with extra support, through the use of:

  • Websites

  • iPad Applications

  • YouTube Videos

  • Easy to make Resources

  • Books

  • Worksheets

to further support and develop concepts which children may find frustrating.

These are not to be used for homework, they are here as fun activities to inspire your child to further their learning. We believe here at tutoring and helpful hints that 'having a go' and igniting a passion for learning is necessary for life long learning.
